Challenges

When selecting a new physical security system, the school district had three priorities: replacing its outdated access control system, managing a large user database, and securing students and faculty across more than 35 locations. The district originally employed a system with a narrow set of features incompatible with administrators’ need for broader capabilities paired with ease of use. To accommodate more than 6,000 user profiles, administrators sought a solution that could deliver strong performance without being difficult to operate. Tasks such as adding and deleting profiles, for example, needed to be both straightforward and efficient.

Because thousands of kids and faculty members required protection, the district wanted a system that could efficiently screen visitors and determine approved entry into school and administration buildings. With each building having distinct security needs, the new setup also had to support each individual location while operating under a unified system.

Aiphone’s Solution 

Securing more than 350 doors across the district, along with installing over 100 video intercom stations, made it clear that the project would be extensive. Over the course of two months, Securatech deployed IX-DVF-PR video door stations with built-in proximity card readers at primary entrances. The stations provide clear video and two-way communication, allowing staff to verify visitors before granting access. Integrated with AC Nio, the proximity readers support credential-based entry at interior and secondary exterior doors. Responsible for the majority of the programming, the school district’s IT team found that implementing AC Nio was a straightforward process. Its interface made credential administration efficient by allowing administrators to quickly add, update, and remove access permissions across hundreds of doors. This enabled the district to bring its new access control infrastructure online with minimal disruption. Holiday Access Schedules

Access permissions in AC Nio can be adjusted according to customized schedules. As schools follow seasonal closures and changing calendars throughout the year, administrators can easily grant or restrict access to specific staff members or visitors during summer break, holidays, and other special events. The system makes it simple to create and modify schedules with unique dates, times, and access requirements, supporting both traditional school calendars and the specific needs of individual communities.

Centralized Management

Overseeing security across a wide array of schools can be a complex process. AC Nio simplifies management by providing a centralized home base for district-wide oversight. Administrators can modify credentials and permissions across the entire district from a single system. Rather than dedicating additional time and resources to making access control changes at each individual school, administrators can manage the process centrally, improving efficiency and consistency across all locations.
