In 2023, Brian Tate joined Aiphone as a Sales Representative for the Mid-Atlantic region. Bringing twelve years of experience in the security industry — including expertise with fire and life safety products, security cameras, and, most notably, access control — he was well-prepared to excel in the role. His passion and ability to educate others on access control quickly distinguished him, eventually leading to his transition into product management.
Today, Tate provides daily access control guidance, fielding complex inquiries, clarifying technical solutions, and troubleshooting challenges from a sales enablement perspective. His responsibilities also extend to product planning, where he evaluates existing offerings, identifies areas for improvement, researches evolving market trends, and explores opportunities for future integrations.
With a philosophy centered on approachability, collaboration, and company-wide education, Tate has become an invaluable asset to Aiphone. His vast experience helps him to expand product knowledge both internally and throughout the industry.
Company-Wide Access Control Education
Aiphone has long been recognized as an intercom company. However, as the industry has shifted away from traditional analog systems and into the IP era, customer needs have expanded, prompting a strategic shift. “Aiphone has diversified,” says Tate. “We’ve found an alternative product line, which includes access control. Re-labeling our ecosystem to emphasize that has been our ongoing mission.”
Part of this effort includes clarifying how Aiphone offers a comprehensive security solution using access control as a building block. “It does the heavy lifting,” Tate explains. “It keeps doors locked or opens them in the event of an emergency. For example, in schools, if there’s an active threat, access control is what helps keep that threat away from teachers and students.”
The other aspect of this process has been ensuring that every department at Aiphone is thoroughly educated on access control. With an expert like Tate leading that goal, a constantly evolving topic has become more approachable through his personable and relatable teaching style. After initially receiving a steady stream of individual questions from team members, Tate recognized the need for a more scalable approach. He took the initiative to create a three-session access control bootcamp, allowing his knowledge to be shared across the company. While Tate continues to hold office hours and webinars for those seeking additional guidance, the education series has become the foundation of access control training at Aiphone. “The education side of things is what I’ve always enjoyed,” says Tate.
Teaching other people how things work, being able to communicate with them in succinct ways… that’s how we create success and get repeat business from customers.

Product Manager, Access Control
Aiphone’s Unique Access Control
In Tate’s series, he emphasizes the practical functions, mechanics, and installation requirements of access control, as well as the broader role it plays within a security system. In doing so, he reinforces what differentiates Aiphone from others in the industry. While many companies offer reputable access control solutions, Tate recognizes that their systems often lack simplicity. End users require extensive support from trained installers to configure and manage their systems. “It’s not something that can be done without significant assistance,” he explains.
By contrast, Aiphone’s access control platform is both innovative and accessible. The system delivers advanced capabilities without creating unnecessary complexity or requiring additional time to implement. This is demonstrated through features such as the user-focused dashboard, which provides instant visibility and an easily customizable interface. By automating time-intensive administrative tasks, the platform reduces manual effort and creates a more effortless user experience.
The Future of Access Control
The future of access control at Aiphone is not just about controlling doors; it is about building a connected security ecosystem where devices work together to improve awareness, speed up response times, and increase efficiency. As buildings and organizations depend more on connected systems and manage security across multiple locations, Tate sees remote management shifting from being a convenience to a necessity.
With his approachable, collaborative attitude and strong focus on education, Tate has changed the way Aiphone adapts to the evolution and expansion of access control. He prioritizes offers that align with the industry and the growing needs of customers and maintains Aiphone’s reputation as a leader in the intercom and access control market.
