Why Paging is the Missing Piece in your Facilities Communication System

To the general population, pagers may ring a bell as the pre-smartphone technology used to communicate between two people in a mobile network. While you will rarely see anyone sporting a “beeper” in the present day, paging technology is still a relevant form of one-way communication. In many cases, it can even be used in place of an intercom or telephone for efficient mass communication.

Paging is a one-way system used for widespread communication. Paging can be useful in a variety of applications including grocery stores, retail outlets, industrial facilities, manufacturing plants, and warehouses. In populated settings, one-way communication provides the opportunity to broadcast announcements or emergency notifications publicly, or to designated subsets of people. Paging systems can also communicate with phones and speakers, which can be loudened by amplifiers in noisier environments.

Simple installation and easy to use

Simple wiring makes a paging system easy to install for a lower cost. Once installed, paging can be used to deliver mass communication, or reach multiple zones at once without relaying the same message multiple times. With talkback capability, individual zones or all zones can communicate back. Internally, this means that PA systems can communicate with any speaker connected through the master station, even allowing for multiple talk paths.

Integration across communication systems

Paging systems are designed for quick access, requiring only the push of a button to send a signal. This option complements an existing phone system or two-way communication system. This is the ideal option in noisy environments as speakers and amplifiers can be added to the paging system. This application could be leveraged in a grocery setting to cast an announcement over the sounds of busy shoppers. Paging can also be used in situations where a communication needs to come across urgently, without waiting for phone lines to open up.

Technologically forward features

Paging technology has come a long way since its original introduction and is now more convenient than ever. With IP Intercom systems, messages can be broadcast throughout a building, or to a specified room or office with the choice of either a hands-free or handset reply. IP intercom systems can be seamlessly integrated with PA systems enabling pages, alerts, and bell notifications to be clearly heard throughout a facility, or entire campus.

Environments big and small can benefit from paging technology. Whether a busy retail environment, or a massive manufacturing plant, being able to quickly and easily send a message makes daily communications easier and more effective.
