Artificial intelligence has quickly moved from a niche technology to a foundational topic across nearly every industry. In the world of physical security, conversations around AI are happening more than ever. They are active, complex, and, in many cases, deeply promising. At Aiphone, we believe AI has the potential to elevate how people respond to situations, improve operational awareness, and reduce time to action in critical moments. But we also believe this is a tool that must be used with intention.

How does Aiphone approach the role of AI?

We do not see AI as something to be feared or avoided. We also do not see it as something to chase for the sake of keeping up. Instead, we see it for what it is, a tool. A tool that can offer tremendous value when applied responsibly and thoughtfully, and one that must always be used in service of human needs, not in place of them.

This perspective is deeply rooted in our values as a company. Aiphone has always believed in security driven by human connection. Our products are designed to bring people together, to create clarity, to provide peace of mind, and to support real decisions made by real people. Whether at a school entrance, a corporate campus, a hospital, or a residential building, our products exist to help people assess, respond, and connect. That clarity and connection is at the heart of what we build, and that principle applies just as strongly to how we consider emerging technologies like AI.

Internally, Aiphone already uses AI tools to improve operational efficiency. We rely on it to assist with data migration, forecasting, process automation, and other behind-the-scenes tasks that allow our teams to focus on more strategic work. These internal applications are low-risk and high-value, and they demonstrate how AI can quietly enhance productivity without disrupting human decision-making. Where things become more complex is when we begin considering how AI could be used in our products. That is where our philosophy becomes even more deliberate.

What principles guide Aiphone in preparing for AI?

We are not rushing to embed AI across our product line, and we’re asking bigger questions. Where can AI help someone make a more informed decision, but not make the decision for them? Where can it reduce delays or uncertainty without reducing oversight or control? These are the questions that matter most to us.

Today, we see AI and machine learning already being used widely across the physical security industry. License plate recognition is a great example of responsible use. It automates a tedious task, reduces friction at entry points, and supports access without compromising judgment. Behavioral analytics and video analysis are also useful when designed to notify, not act. An alert can be helpful but a system acting without human input, especially when it is based on pattern recognition that might be biased, is where we draw the line.

At Aiphone, we will never implement AI in a way that creates predetermined assessments of intent, risk, or behavior based on how someone looks, moves, or appears to behave. That type of automation introduces risk, and potentially prejudice, into systems that are meant to keep people safe. Our products will never be allowed to make security decisions based on assumptions, only people can do that, and they must be given the tools to do it clearly and confidently.

What sets Aiphone apart in the AI conversation?

Our philosophy aligns with the purpose of our products, which can differ from that of an IP camera or a mass notification system. We understand that AI should be applied differently depending on the type of solution and the role it plays in a larger security ecosystem. That is why we partner with other industry leaders who take on the additional responsibilities that come with more advanced AI capabilities, and who do so thoughtfully. These partnerships help ensure our mutual customers receive the best possible experience without compromising trust, clarity, or control.

Still, we are not ignoring the momentum behind AI. While we do not feel pressured to compete on buzzwords, we recognize that the interest from our partners and customers is very real. Many of the conversations we are having today include questions about what role AI will play in our roadmap, and that makes it an important part of our strategy moving forward.

How is Aiphone planning to bring AI capabilities into future solutions?

We are developing systems now that will be AI-ready. That means designing with the right hardware, chipsets, and integration flexibility to support responsible edge computing, especially in scenarios where fast communication and timely response are essential. In areas like K–12 security, we are working with trusted partners to explore how AI can help notify staff and first responders quickly during incidents, without replacing human judgment or control. These types of use cases are promising, and when paired with the right ethical standards, they can help save time and lives.

Throughout this process, our standards remain high. Every use of AI in our ecosystem will be subject to the same rigorous quality assurance and ethical review we apply to all our technologies. We are moving forward with a clear purpose and a strong belief that AI, if done right, can enhance our mission rather than distract from it. That mission is simple, and it has not changed: to deliver uncompromised security driven by human connection.

We want innovation to support those who need to make the most critical decisions, not replace them. In an industry built on trust and reliability, the power of technology must always be matched by the power of human oversight. We do not take that responsibility lightly.

AI will play a role in the future of security, and Aiphone will be part of that future. Not because we are chasing it, but because we are shaping it the way we believe it should be shaped: with intention, integrity, and people at the center.
