Frequently Asked Questions

  • How Many Stations Can the IS Local Series Support?

    The IS Series Local System supports up to 20 master stations, 20 door stations, and 120 room/sub stations, requiring at least one IS-CCU (Central Control Unit) and an additional IS-SCU or IS-RCU, depending on the configuration.

  • Is the IS Series Compatible With Other Aiphone Intercoms?

    IS Series stations are not compatible with other intercom stations from Aiphone. All compatible door and sub stations must contain the prefix of “IS”, ex IS-DV.

  • Is the IS Local Series Network-Based? Is It Compatible With the IS-IP Series Stations?

    IS Series has three iterations:

     

    • IS Local:The IS Series Local System requires at least on IS-CCU for IS stations to connect to, and these stations are not network-based.
    • IS IP:The IS IP Series is a network-based version of the IS Series which utilizes a network to communicate, relying on one of the stations to act as the Host of the system.
    • IS Hybrid:The IS Series Hybrid System uses the IS-IPC to allow IS Local and IS IP stations to communicate as part of the same system.
  • IS Local Series Wiring Distances

    Each IS Series has a maximum wiring distance of 980’(490′ for the IS-RS) from the exchange unit (IS-CCU/SCU/RCU) it is connected to.

     

    IS Series exchange units (IS-CCU/SCU/RCU) have a maximum wiring distance of 650’ from the exchange unit they are connected to.

  • What Power Supply Do I Need for My Door Strike or Magnetic Lock?

    For that information, you need to call the manufacturer of the door strike or magnetic lock. Aiphone cannot answer that question and cannot provide you with an acceptable alternative.

  • Error: “You Are Already Logged In”.

    This error occurs when the browser restarts or closes without properly signing out of the IS-CCU. To resolve this error power cycle the IS-CCU you are attempting to log into and try again.

  • Configuring the Speed Dial Buttons on the IS-MV.

    The speed dial buttons on the IS-MV can be programmed to do the following:

     

    • Call a specific Master Station from the address book
    • Call a specific Door Station from the address book
    • Call a zone
    • Initiate a Page to all stations or to a zone

    Note: The speed dial buttons on the IS-MV cannot be programmed to release a door, activate a contact input, or activate a contact output. Click here for instructions on configuring the speed dial buttons.

  • IS Series Cat-5e/6 Cable Pinout.

    Each pair in the CAT-5 cable carries different signals. This is the TIA/EIA 568B Wiring Standard:

     

    • Pair 1, pins 4,5 (Blue/Blu-Wht): Audio Signal
    • Pair 2, pins 1,2 (Org-Wht/Org): Data Signal
    • Pair 3, pins 3,6 (Grn-Wht/Grn): Video Signal
    • Pair 4, pins 7,8 (Brn-Wht/Brn): Power (7 = Negative, 8 = Positive)
  • IS Local Series mp3 Requirements Used for Chimes and Bells.

    The MP3 must meet the following requirements to be compatible with the IS-CCU.

     

    • 64kbps
    • 44.1 kHz
    • mono
    • Max size = 2.5Mb
    • Remove any IDV2 or IDV3 tags You can load a maximum of 15 files.
    You can create a maximum of 20 sound sequence files.
  • No Video on Stations Connected to the IS-SCU.

    The Connection Check on the Control Unit Composition page and the Registering Stations pages is only intended to verify the physical presence and type of the units. It does not verify the presence, correct connection, or integrity of the #MX2, or #MX3 cables, which are nonetheless still necessary for the equipment to function successfully. Both the #MX2 and #MX3 connections between the IS-SCU and IS-CCU are required for the full functionality of the stations.

  • A Newly Added Door Station Beeps 3 Times When Attempting to Place a Call.

    A newly added station must be configured in the IS-CCU and have a call destination assigned. For steps on adding a new station to an existing IS Series system, click here.

  • What to Do When Programming the IS-IP Series

    Using a PC, login into each device using a web browser for configuration. Click here to view the IS-IP QuickStart Programming Guide.

    All firmware versions of the IS series support Internet Explorer. Microsoft Edge is supported on firmware versions newer than 2.04. No version of the IS-IP series supports Chrome, Firefox or other browsers. There are sections of the IS-IP web interface that will freeze up if they are used, causing you to lose your programming and requiring you to reboot the station.

     

  • What to Do When the IP Addresses of the IS-IP Stations Are Not Known

    Download the IP Search Tool here. This tool will send a broadcast across the network and report back with the IP and MAC address of each station. Sometimes, the broadcast used to find the stations may be unable to traverse a managed network. If the search tool provides partial or no results, placing the stations on the same unmanaged switch as the PC may improve results.

     

    If the IP Search Tool still does not provide any results, you can log into each station using “Maintenance Mode” to find the assigned IP Address. Click here for further instructions.

  • Can the Door Release Outputs Be Used Out of the Box?

    No, door release is available by default on all stations. On the back of each IS-IP door station there are a set of contacts labeled NC/COM/NO. As a reminder, individual door release is triggered while a door and master station are in communication, and cannot be triggered without communication.

    • NC = Normally Closed
    • COM = Common
    • NO = Normally Open

  • What Does “Communication With Central Control Unit Not Possible” Mean

    This error may be caused by the following:

     

    • The connection port for IS SOFT does not match the connection port of your host device. The default port is 5060, and should not be adjusted without consultation with Aiphone Technical Support. Also not that this port is found under “Network Settings: Individual” when logged into the web GUI of the host station. This differs from the ports found under “IP Unit Registration” and should not match or overlap.
    • The Host IP Address listed in “Network Settings” of IS SOFT does not match the IP address assigned to the Host, found in “Network Settings:Individual” of the Host when logged into the web GUI.
    • The MAC address listed for IS SOFT does not match the MAC address listed in the web GUI of the Host station found under “IP Unit Registration”.
  • What to Do When a Newly Added Door Station Beeps 3 Times When Attempting to Place a Call

    A newly added station must be configured as a Client, and then added to the existing system via the Host station’s web GUI. For steps on adding a new station to an existing IS-IP Series system, click here.

  • What to Do When There Is Audio but No Video When an IS-IP Door Station Calls an IS-IPMV or IS Soft Master Station

    The following explaination is for when there is no video present when a door station places a call to a master station, but audio and door release function properly.

    In the initial testing phase of this issue, a call should be placed (or station monitoring performed) from a master station, either from IS SOFT or IS-IPMV, to the door station. If there is video present during this test, continue reading the explaination of how Multicast is used with the IS-IP Series. If video is not present during this test, review the video port information found in the IS-IP Network Sheet with the network administrator.

    The most common cause of this issue is that multicast groups have not been created or routed on the network.

    There are several ways to troubleshooting a possible Multicast configuration or routing issue, ranging from basic system tests to more involved network packet “sniffing” or capturing.

    An IS-IP Door Station uses Multicast to send video to the Master Stations it is programmed to call. On the other hand, an IS-IP Master Station uses Unicast when it directly calls a Door Station. For example, using a speed dial button or Station Search to manually select a Door Station it wants to speak to.

    Knowing this, some reasonable conclusions can be made. If video is not present when the Door Station calls into a Master Station, but video is present when that same Master Station calls the Door Station directly. We can use other facts about the IS-IP system to narrow down the cause of the issue.

    • There is not a way to disable video in the programming of any IS-IP station.
    • Video displaying when a Master Station calls a Door station shows the LCD screen of the Master and the Camera of the Door Station are functioning correctly.
    • If the call-in takes place successfully and audio works, we know the stations are programmed to communicate with one another correctly.
    • If the video port was blocked, typically, video would not transmit regardless of the source of the request.
    • The feature of a Master Station calling a Door Station using Unicast, a protocol not requiring configuration, functions correctly.
