Background

California Proposition 65 (official name: the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986) was enacted as a ballot initiative in 1986. Proposition 65 requires business to inform individuals in California about exposures to chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. The State of California maintains a list of chemicals regulated under the law.
